Governance

In 2009, the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa implemented a new governance structure. Led by the Bishop, Diocesan Council is responsible for the on-going work of the Diocese, providing leadership and oversight, and setting overall strategic direction. It sets appropriate frameworks and policies to support the achievement of the Diocesan mission and is responsible, with the Bishop, for overseeing the implementation of strategic plans, stewardship of the resources of the Diocese, and the management of its governance.

Diocesan Council has five very active standing committees: Community Ministry Development, Financial Affairs, Governance and Communications, Parish Ministry Development, and Risk and Audit. The Community Ministries Development Committee (CMDC) is responsible for overseeing the activities of the four Diocesan community ministries – Centre 454, Cornerstone, The Well, and Ottawa Pastoral Counselling Centre – as well as a number of smaller ministries. CMDC responsibilities focus on matters related to programs, services and budgets.

In turn, the CMDC has four standing sub-committees which are management boards for each of the four community ministries. The management boards provide support, leadership and oversight to their respective community ministry and its Executive Director. They have certain delegated authorities but remain accountable to the CMDC.
